Conferences

Training1Education is a cornerstone of our program.  Below you will find that there are several neonatal-focused meetings that are opportunities for learning as well as the opportunity to engage in meaningful, multidisciplinary discussions.

WEEKLY:

BOARD REVIEW FACULTY SESSIONS
Our fellows meet every week during protected time to discuss topics with each of our neonatology faculty. Topics during these sessions include epidemiology, statistics, case presentation review, board review questions, analysis of landmark neonatology articles, and point of care ultrasound. Fellows are given a 3-year AAP subscription during the course of their residency. This subscription provides access to 3-years of AAP (PREP) Questions, which can be used as a study tool for the Neonatal-Perinatal Board Exam. Additionally, this subscription gives access to all NeoReviews.
PEDIATRIC GRAND ROUNDS
The Department of Pediatrics Grand Rounds features speakers that provide presentations to help improve patient care through professional education. Neonatology faculty and fellows often participate as dedicated speakers throughout the year.
NEONATAL-PERINATAL CONFERENCE with MFM and Anesthesia
Fellows and faculty from Neonatology, Maternal-Fetal-Medicine, Obstetrics, and Anesthesia discuss important upcoming high-risk deliveries and share feedback/updates on recent patients.

Monthly:

NEONATAL FELLOW PATIENT CASE CONFERENCE
Fellows present challenging cases of current patients in the NICU along with a review of the literature for discussion and input from the neonatology division.
EVIDENCE-BASED JOURNAL CLUB
Led by the third-year fellow, the fellows present a critical review of a topic with a selection of 3 articles minimum to the neonatology division. Often these result in the creation or revision of clinical care guidelines. Articles are reviewed to target understanding of study design, result interpretation, and limitations.
NEONATAL FELLOW RESEARCH UPDATES
Fellows present their research including potential barriers for discussion and input from the neonatology division.
NEONATAL-PERINATAL CONFERENCE with MFM CASE CONFERENCE
Our close relationship with our MFM group allows for collaboration amongst fellows. Each month 2 fellows (1 from each specialty) present an interesting case from prenatal to postnatal course along with a review of the literature. Cases that involved additional subspecialty care allow for the participation of these disciplines.
MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY CONFERENCES
Fellows present recent cases for discussion and review of autopsy or other anatomic studies with pediatric pathologists and the neonatology division.

Quarterly or Yearly:

PEDI BY THE GULF
