Osler Student Activities John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine Bioethics Bowl & DiscourseThe Bioethics Bowl & Discourse is an annual tradition where first- and second-year medical students from each of the eight Osler Student Societies form teams to tackle complex, real-world medical ethics cases. Over a series of rounds, teams are challenged to analyze and discuss these cases, and are judged on the quality and incisiveness of their reasoning about the cases. Preliminary rounds narrow the field to two finalist teams, who face off during a culminating championship evening that includes a dinner and a keynote address from a guest speaker in the field of bioethics, medicine, or medical humanities. The winning team is honored with the Bioethics Bowl plaque, engraved with their names and proudly displayed in the Latch Key Room of Old Red—serving as a lasting tribute to their thoughtful engagement and excellence in ethical discourse.
